IT’S ABOUT TIME
KELLY LANG
16 August 2004
DESTINY ROW 1563 10 out of 10. Here’s one of the best new country female albums to arise in my review box for a while. It is true-blue country yet fashionably rich-in-sound. These great story songs are ‘easy-listening’ gentle balladeering repertoire with a sharp cutting-edge. New to me, Kelly’s style is characteristically hers. She is a winsome natural, her starting point is to use her music to communicate the reality of life’s struggles with directness and clarity, evident in descriptive lyrics. She is without doubt a country balladeer of the first order to watch. This MOR set is a testament to a talent that will become highly loved. This is an endeavor that deserves praise with its well-selected repertoire. What surprises me is that other artists have not, it seems, picked up the use of her repertoire.
